How this worksThe basics, in one minute

A few things to understand before you sign anything.

You are contracted by the Music in Africa Foundation (MIAF) — not by your host. You'll do your day-to-day work at your host organisation, who supervises you on site. MIAF handles your contract and your pay.

You can't start working yet. You may only begin once your signed contract and documents are in, and MIAF gives your host the go-ahead. Starting earlier means you won't be recorded — and won't be paid.

Your role & pay

Your exact role, hours and rate are set out in your individual contract. The wage categories for this intake are:

CategoryDays / cycleMonthly wage (gross)
Ordinary participantup to 7Up to R1 774.64
Semi-skilledup to 20Up to R8 316.00
Skilledup to 20Up to R8 537.60

You're paid only for hours actually worked, by EFT into your own verified bank account, and a 1% UIF deduction applies. The exact figures in your contract are what count.

02

The roles we're hosting15 placements across 5 streams

Every participant is placed in one stream and trained in real, in-demand skills. Here's the split for this intake.

15 placements · 5 streams · café · production · esports · customisation · design

You may also work live events

Whatever your stream, you may help support public pop-culture, gaming and esports events. Your duties at each can vary.

03

Documents to bringYour folder must be complete, correct & legible

Bring all of these. You can't be onboarded — or paid — until your folder is complete.

DEADLINE

Everything must reach MIAF by the 10th of the month. Anything later means you won't be onboarded or paid that month. Documents handed in must be complete, correct and legible — incomplete folders are not accepted.

04

What to expect & the rulesHow the day-to-day runs

The programme is strict on attendance and conduct on purpose — building professionalism and dependability is part of the point, and it's tracked.

A Clocking in & out

You clock in and out for every shift on the KwantuGo app, with your site timekeeper. No clock-in means no record — and no clock means no pay. This replaces paper timesheets.

B Getting paid

Paid monthly by EFT on the last working day, into your own verified account. The pay cycle runs the 21st to the 20th. You're paid only for hours actually worked; 1% UIF applies.

C Punctuality

Arrive and clock in on time, every day, per your contract. Lateness and absence are visible in the system. If you can't make it, report it as early as possible.

D Conduct — zero tolerance

No theft, harassment, intimidation, discrimination or threatening behaviour. Working under the influence of alcohol or drugs means you're sent home and unpaid for that day.

E If you're issued a device

It stays MIAF property and is for programme use only. Report loss, damage or theft within 24 hours (with a SAPS case number if stolen), and return it when your placement ends.

F Training

You'll do an induction in your first week, plus role-specific training. Attend everything, online or in person, punctual and prepared.

If you have a problem

Raise it with your host first — your team leader or site coordinator. They aim to resolve complaints within seven working days, and escalate to MIAF if needed. Keep talking to your host before going directly to MIAF.

05

Are you eligible? You should be able to tick every box

Check yourself against the programme criteria before you sign.

Grants: your contract asks you to confirm your grant status (SRD, NSFAS or Old Age Pension). If you receive the SRD grant, check with your host before signing — the programme has advised that once you start earning, the SRD grant falls away automatically. Confirm exactly how this applies to you.
